UN climate panel issues blueprint for limiting global warming

major new report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, stands for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) calls for an urgent shift away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy technologies in order to rein in global warming. The IPCC's assessment reports set the terms of the climate debate with world leaders, CEOs and activists.

The 17 Chapters of the Working Group III Report assess the mitigation of climate change, examine the sources of global emissions and explain developments in emission reduction and mitigation efforts. The 17 chapters are:

  3. Mitigation pathways compatible with long-term goals

  4. Mitigation and development pathways in the near- to mid-term

  12. Cross sectoral perspectives

  13. National and sub-national policies and institutions

  14. International cooperation

  15. Investment and finance

  16. Innovation, technology development and transfer

  17. Accelerating the transition in the context of sustainable development
