Mastering Expressive and Receptive Language through Result-Oriented Learning (8 Weeks / session)

Course Description:

This innovative course combines the principles of effective communication with the power of visual design, using the popular design tool Canva. It aims to enhance students' expressive and receptive language skills while also teaching them to communicate visually. By the end of the course, students will have created their own booklet on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their improved communication and design skills.

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and apply the components of expressive and receptive language.

  2. Improve their vocabulary and use of grammar and syntax.

  3. Express thoughts, ideas, and feelings effectively both verbally and visually.

  4. Improve their comprehension of spoken and written language.

  5. Use Canva to create visually appealing and effective communication materials.

  6. Develop a booklet on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their communication and design skills.

 

Course Content:

  1. Introduction to Expressive and Receptive Language: Overview of the components of expressive and receptive language, and the importance of these skills in daily life and academic success.

  2. Building Vocabulary and Mastering Grammar: Strategies for expanding vocabulary, understanding word meanings, and using words accurately in context. Understanding the rules of language that dictate how sentences are formed, and applying these rules in spoken and written language.

  3. Effective Expression and Comprehension: Techniques for expressing thoughts, ideas, and feelings clearly and effectively. Strategies for improving understanding of spoken and written language.

  4. Introduction to Canva and Visual Communication: Overview of Canva and its features. Understanding the principles of visual communication and how to apply them in Canva.

  5. Designing with Canva: Hands-on practice with Canva, including creating designs, choosing and using images, and applying design principles.

  6. Creating a Booklet: Guidance and support in choosing a topic, planning the content, and designing and creating a booklet using Canva.

 

Teaching Methods:

The course will use a combination of teaching methods, including direct instruction, interactive activities, group discussions, individual practice exercises, and hands-on design work in Canva. Students will also receive personalized feedback to help them improve their skills.

 

Assessment:

Assessment will be based on participation in class activities, completion of Canva design projects, and the final booklet project. Pre- and post-course assessments will measure improvement in expressive and receptive language skills.

 

Who Should Attend:

This course is suitable for children aged 9 - 13 who are interested in improving their communication skills and learning to communicate visually using Canva. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
