Submission Process

After your submission, we will review your work.

  • The first step involves coming up with an idea or concept for the picture book. This includes brainstorming story ideas, characters, themes, and plot points. Once the concept is developed, you can start creating an outline and structure for the story.

  • Once you have a story concept, the next step is to develop the visuals for the book. This involves creating rough sketches and storyboards to visualize the story and plan out the illustrations. Then, you can start creating the final illustrations, paying close attention to the use of color, composition, and character design. The layout and design of the book, including font selection and page layout, are also important elements to consider.

  • The final step involves editing and refining the story and illustrations. This includes reviewing the story structure and pacing, ensuring that the illustrations are consistent with the story, and making any necessary revisions. Once the final version is complete, submit your work!

Use a high-contrast color scheme

Creating pleasing contrasts is essential in design, as it can make all the difference in the final result. To ensure that your board book colors pop, we suggest following the general rule of using dark font colors on light backgrounds or light font colors on dark backgrounds. Avoid using dark font colors on dark backgrounds, as it may make reading more difficult. Additionally, keep in mind that the brightness of your screen can affect the appearance of colors. Therefore, it's essential to choose the right shades with the final printed outcome in mind.

Consistency

Maintaining consistency is crucial in designing a professional-looking picture book. To achieve this, it's recommended to use a single font, font size, and color scheme throughout each spread. This approach will make it easy for readers to follow the design without feeling overwhelmed or confused. It's also important to choose a font that is easy to read to ensure the best reading experience for your audience.

Image Quality

To ensure high-quality images, we advise submitting images with a minimum of 300 dots per inch (dpi) or higher. If you're using a smartphone to take pictures, make sure to use the original image instead of compressed versions to achieve the best results. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your submitted images are of the highest quality possible.
